Privacy Policy

Snug runs entirely on your Mac and keeps nothing about you. This page says exactly what that means, in the order people ask it.

What the app collects

Nothing, unless you send a report yourself (below). Snug does not gather usage data, diagnostics, crash reports, device identifiers, or any information about you or how you use your Mac. There is no analytics SDK in the build. Your menu bar layout, aliases, triggers, and settings are stored on your own Mac, as readable files under ~/Library/Application Support/Snug/. The date your trial began is also kept in your Mac’s Keychain, so a reinstall knows the trial has started.

What leaves your Mac

By default, Snug goes online for two things:

• Claiming your license. When you activate a key, Snug records a hash of it and an opaque Apple identifier for your iCloud account in Apple’s CloudKit, so the same key works on every Mac signed in to that account and nowhere else. Snug reads that record again when it launches. It holds no email address, no name, and nothing about how you use Snug, and you can release it from the License pane.
• The daily update check. Snug checks for and downloads its own updates from snug.menu. That request fetches a static file. It carries no identity and no usage information, and Snug does not send a system profile with it. You can switch it off in Settings, under About.

Everything else is off until you turn it on:

• iCloud sync, when you turn on Sync with iCloud in Settings, under General. Your layout and settings travel between your Macs through Apple’s own iCloud key-value store, and nothing of ours is in the path.
• Report a Problem, when you press Send. It sends what you wrote, Snug’s version, your macOS version, your Mac’s model (not its name), a random install id, and Snug’s own log of where it put your menu bar items. The titles your menu bar items show are left out of that log before it is sent.

Nothing else leaves your Mac: no analytics and no crash reporting.

Permissions

• Accessibility lets Snug read and rearrange your menu bar items. That happens entirely on your device and nothing leaves it. Hiding and revealing work before you grant it.
• Screen Recording is optional. Snug works fully without it. If you turn on pixel-perfect icons, Snug reads only the menu bar strip to draw matching images, on your Mac, in real time. It does not record or transmit your screen, and it does not call a screen capture API until you switch that feature on.
• Location is optional, and only needed if you create a trigger that watches for a particular Wi‑Fi network, because macOS puts network names behind Location. Snug does not store or share your location.

Purchases

Payment is handled by our reseller, Paddle, who acts as the merchant of record. Paddle processes your payment and your email address in order to deliver your license key and receipt, under Paddle's privacy policy. Snug validates your license on your Mac; the app itself does not receive or store your payment details. We can see order records (email address, product, amount) in Paddle's seller dashboard, which is how we answer a support question about a purchase.

Your license key

Your key is checked on your own Mac against a public key built into the app. Snug does not contact a server of ours to validate it, so using Snug does not tell us, or anyone else, when or how often you run it. The one-time iCloud record described above is what ties a key to your Apple ID; it is written once when you activate and read again when Snug launches.

This website

snug.menu sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no third-party fonts or scripts. The one exception is the checkout page, which loads Paddle's payment script when you open it so that a card can be entered safely. Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server request logs.

The newsletter

Only if you sign up for it. We keep your email address and when you signed up, and use them for one thing: emailing you about Snug (new features, releases, the occasional discount). The address is stored with our host, Netlify, and the emails are sent through Resend. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe. We do not share or sell the list.

Children

Snug is a utility for macOS. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Because Snug collects nothing, a change here is far more likely to be a clarification than a new data practice.
